The most familiar Piano Concertos get brilliantly a new life

New release includes popular Piano Concertos in A minor by Edvard Grieg ja Robert Schumann, brilliantly performed by Janne Mertanen and the Gävle Symphony Orchestra. Bryce Morrison, the admired British writer, describes the performances on this disc: "Everything is given with a living and breathing romantic impulse, is essentially ‘live' with little of the caution or the restricting world of studio conditions... What a vivid contrast he finds between dancing virtuosity on the one hand and sudden retreats into confidentiality on the other... the most familiar pages sound thrillingly unfamiliar."

The Gävle Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest in Sweden, and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012. Over the years, the orchestra has grown to 52 full-time members. Since its inception, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra has had a succession of distinguished Principal Conductors.
