Recital Español
Osmo Palmu
guitar

This Recital Español, Spanish Recital presents music from three periods in the colourful history of Spain performed by guitarist Osmo Palmu:

• The oldest dates back nearly 500 years. The rambling Fantasias and elegant Pavanas of Luis de Milán from the collection El Maestro of 1536 were originally composed for the vihuela, a Spanish instrument somewhere between the early and the present-day guitar.

• Francisco Tárrega introduced various innovations of timbre and technique and had a significant influence on the guitar's new wave of popularity.

• The influence of French Impressionism can, however, be sensed in Homenaje by Manuel de Falla, the impressionistic Nocturno of Federico Moreno Torroba and in all the guitar music by Joaquín Turina.
